The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering services to the Production and Manufacturing Departments to continuously improve and optimize the use of mechanical systems and equipment, as well as the work practices used in maintaining that equipment.
All efforts in this arena should be focused on improving long-term reliability and preserving the safety of those operating and maintaining the equipment. The Mechanical Engineer is accountable for maintaining the mechanical integrity of mechanical systems and equipment while generating and implementing modifications that will result in a reduction of equipment repair costs and improve the service factor of the operating unit.
This requires knowledge/expertise in the design and operation of the equipment and requires the ability to interface with co-workers at all levels to gather information and sell ideas. In so doing, the individual expense and capital project goals (savings, deadlines, quality, etc.) must be met. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for identifying and correcting any deficiencies in existing mechanical systems and equipment through the use of Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques. This requires participation in unit and complex Continuous Improvement Team (CIT) meetings where equipment costs, service factor impact, and scheduling impacts are reviewed to identify points of improvement.
Knowledge & Skills
Understanding of safe work practices; excellent safety history
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5
years experience in maintenance or engineering
Lean/Six sigma experience
Knowledge of and work experience with Solidworks - 3 D CAD Software
Experience and knowledge of the Manufacturing floor and Packaging a plus
Knowledge of maintenance work practices like planning and scheduling, rigging, pipe fitting, welding, alignments, lubrication, and work order handling
Strong technical and problem solving skill for mechanical design, failure analysis, and maintenance
Good communication skills at all levels of the organization
Ability to manage multiple projects with varied priorities and drive them to closure
Functional use of the corporate computer systems
Knowledge of pump hydraulics, seals, rotating equipment, and troubleshooting
Knowledge of best practices for fixed & rotating equipment inspections
Lean/Six sigma experience



Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
