Nursing Assistant - VANEEP

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent in this position is an active participant in the nursing team on 3 North (a Medical/Surgical Unit), and works a rotating tour of duty in an acute care area. The incumbent will build upon knowledge of basic nursing care and standardized procedures to provide service to patients. He/she is able to perform tasks after receipt of patient data and information. The incumbent's assignment is related to the specific needs of the area during a given tour as well as routine functions of the area. The incumbent is primarily assigned to functions on any given tour of duty and not a specified assignment of a group of patients. However, an assignment of a designated group of patients or specific patient interventions may be required. Managing equipment special to the area is required. The incumbent will assist the RN with patient care, obtain vital signs, obtain electrocardiograms, proper lead placement for monitoring, perform phlebotomy and do simple wound dressings. One year above high school with courses related to the NA occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. Physical Requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment physical per VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Language Proficiency:
NAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Experience:
SRNA is preferred; 2 years medical/surgical NA experience. Grade Determinations:
In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS-05 Nursing Assistant (Full Performance Level). (a) Experience. One (1) year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-04 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (c) below; OR, (b) Education. Successful completion of a four-year (4) course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24-semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND (c) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. 2. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. 3. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. References:

Nursing Assistant Qualification Standard GS-621. The full performance level of this vacancy is a GS-5 . The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is a GS-05. Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), strait pulling, pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands/legs, walking and standing 12 hours, crawling and kneeling 12 hours, repeated bending, near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Work Environment:
Work is in a clinical setting and involves regular and recurring exposure to infection and contagious disease, and exposure to potentially dangerous situations such as noxious gases, fumes and explosives. The incumbent may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent is required to use available safe patient handling lifting devices in all clinical areas. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative due to delirium, dementia, or other psychiatric disorders.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
