As a Package Engineer you will maintain performance and material specifications for packaging components including; bottles, closures, corrugated, aerosol cans, pails, kegs, drums, pallets, etc. used within Valvoline.
You will also participate with Marketing, Operations, Quality and Purchasing in the development and introduction of all new packaging concepts and promotional programs. Providing performance characteristics for each new design and identifying characteristics of new designs which will affect packaging line performance and recommend changes to the design which will enhance performance or reduce cost will also be you responsibilities. Coordinate testing of new designs.
Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of all existing packaging equipment and lines globally within the company. Optimize line performance through integration and automation of individual components or systems. Increase flexibility of existing equipment and standardize equipment design, layouts, etc. where possible.
Drive "Green/Sustainability" packaging initiatives. Understand industry recycling programs & recommend opportunities to reduce packaging waste. Fulfill vendor administrative sustainability requirements; e.g., Wal-Mart. Evaluate packaging for opportunities to reduce carbon footprint. Identify opportunities to incorporate recycled materials into new packaging.
Design/specify packaging materials to optimize cost and maintain robust performance throughout the product life to the end customer. Ensure packaging materials are compatible with finished products and are suitable for each application: e.g., international export, high humidity, high loading, UV exposure, high temperature, shelf life, etc.
In conjunction with EHS department, ensure finished product packaging complies with all State, Federal and International regulations including; recycled content laws, CPSC (Child Protection & Safety Commission), DOT (Department of Transportation), UN (United Nations), etc.
Develop and administer in conjunction with Quality Management team a quality measurement system for all packaging components used within Valvoline. Establish standards that will improve the quality of packages, as well as set minimum acceptable manufacturing tolerances for packaging components supplied by vendors. Conduct PSI (Package Scene Investigation) analysis and vendor qualification audits as required.
Interface with 3rd party packaging designers and contract packagers to ensure product quality and maintain a consistent brand image globally.
Bachelor of Science, BS or MS in
(Packaging, Civil, or Mechanical, discipline)
Experience in Petrochemical industry, Manufacturing with high speed packaging is desired
Knowledge with EH&S; regulation and compliance
Demonstrated ability to work well with others across organizations (both internally and externally) in order to achieve goals with and through others is an absolute imperative
SAP experience a plus
Available for International Travel as required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
