Job Description
In support of Machine shop working with multiple disciplines in a team environment. Sets up and operates three to five axis CNC machines that automatically mill, drill, turn, ream, or bore parts; and may be required to operate CNC Water Jet; Operator is responsible for the proper care and use of machine, material and equipment, as well as following instructions. The design and automatic features of these machines permit the operation of more than one machine or subsequent operations. During cycle time the operator may be required to do other duties related to their job assignment. May be require to direct and instruct others on this work. Must know shop mathematics, the characteristics of various metals and be able to follow and comprehend prints as required, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Checks proper sizes, fits, and finishes as required using micrometers, calipers, bore gages,indicators, and other precision measuring instruments and record results on paper and/or electronic shop floor collection forms. All special tools, precision measuring instruments and equipment are furnished. Coordinates with supervision as required on this work. Must set up and locate fixtures and workholding devices, load and unload work fixtures and devices, load and unload tools, as required. Will be required to adjust cutting tools as required to maintain dimensions due to tool wear. Operator is responsible for the orderliness of working areas and the following of approved shop procedures. Operator is exposed to typical machine shop conditions. The frequent use of computers and various softwares is required, including the sending of NCF and MIN files to the machine controller.
Basic Qualifications
Skills include setup, offset adjustments, make program changes, change tooling, use inspection equipment, loading of CNC programs, and operation of 3 to 5 axis CNC Mills and/or CNC lathe. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Desired skills
Experience with Haas, Fadal, and Okuma controls and the operation of CNC Water Jet. Ability to recognize and understand GD&T.; Ability to select and recommend work holding options such as machine vises, modular fixtures, vacuum fixtures, or dedicated fixtures.
