Supervisory Pharmacy Technician

The Supervisory Pharmacy Technician is responsible for developing schedules, planning and granting leave and rotating duties of pharmacy technicians. The functions of the position include, but may not be limited to the below:
Projects overtime requirements based on workload and staffing needs. Assess workload volume, identify backlogs, and make staffing adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals. Identifies areas of duplication of efforts and develops solutions to streamline processes reduce waste, save costs, and improve patient care. Assist with developing performance standards that are realistic, challenging, and support the organizational mission, vison and goals. Responsible for ensuring all employees meet performance standards and competencies. Review employee competencies on an annual basis and complete performance evaluations. Nominate staff to receive awards and initiates disciplinary action and/or separation based upon performance and/or conduct. Oversee responsibilities associate with Omnicell and monitor workflow patterns in accordance with the requirements of Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA). Coordinate day-to-day maintenance and operation of inpatient pharmacy area equipment and automation. Assist Operations Manager in coordinating and conducting all inpatient narcotic vault activities. Assist in the interview process and selection of pharmacy technicians. Conducts technician meeting to assure proper updates of departmental and hospital communications. Assist with training, orientation, and re-training of employees to Pharmacy Service policies and procedures. Identify and report developmental and training needs to ensure safety and quality control. Responsible for overall technical operation and direction Outpatient/Inpatient Pharmacy programs. Reviews and updates pharmacy services policies and procedures. Work Schedule:

Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification:
Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required. English Language Proficiency:
Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations GS-8:
Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level (GS-7). Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1. Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities. 2. Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. 3. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment. 5. Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process. 6. Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures. 7. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures. 8. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk ( ):
1. Knowledge of human resource management policies and procedures, and the ability to supervise various levels of pharmacy technicians and other technical personnel (for supervisory assignments). 2. Ability to apply management and leadership principles. 3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. 4. Extensive working knowledge of the pharmacy operation. 5. Ability to assess staff needs and provide appropriate training. Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Pharmacy technicians at this level may be assigned supervisory positions or assignments as lead technicians in a highly complex area of the pharmacy. The GS-8 level is for very select, complex pharmacy technician positions as established by each health care facility. The work involves regular and recurring physical exertion including walking, bending, prolonged standing, stooping, lifting and carrying packages weighing up to 40 pounds. Dexterity is required for the operation of Pharmacy equipment.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
